TOYS

TOYS-Trample Over Your Sorrows is a campaign to create awareness against child sexual abuse and to support and counsel adult survivors. Our campaign aims at creating awareness among the youth about child sexual abuse and its effects even during adulthood. We hope to affect a positive change during the course of our campaign which will be conducted at ground level starting 17th of December and concluding 24th of December. Our campaign will include conducting seminars and workshops to target our audience, which is the youth, as well as having events and street shows to engage the general public.

An important focus of our campaign is to keep it lively and interesting since it will help us to target the youth audience. We hope that if we affect enough of today’s youth they will stand up for the cause and make a difference.

We have associated with the non-governmental organisation ARPAN, who deals with creating awareness about child sexual abuse and counselling adult survivors. Arpan conducts seminars for parents and children to create awareness. They also conduct counselling sessions for adult survivors and workshops for people who wish to volunteer for the cause.

With the help of Arpan, we hope to bring about a change in our society by curbing the occurrences of child sexual abuse. Children are our future and we need to protect them. We hope that children can enjoy the childhood they deserve.

Child Sexual Abuse- The Harsh Truth

To every human our greatest treasure is our very own body, a temple of sorts that no one should have the audacity or right to abuse.  A study in 2007 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development shows that 53.22 percent of all Indian children are sexually abused.  In a country where children make up over 42 percent of the entire population surely the protection and rights of these children need to be well represented. In the absence of their ability to differentiate between right and wrong the need for awareness among the parents is of primary importance.  The children themselves should be informed on where to draw the line, we’ve always heard that children are the future of a nation, surely their protection should be the concern of the country. Boys are as susceptible to abuse as girls and this common misconception is not the notion most parents have.

Sadly the trauma itself is carried forward into their adolescence and then later on as well. The ordeal itself and its impact cause great distress and anguish to these adult survivors.  By suppressing their pain they worsen the situation and the only solution in most cases is rigorous therapy and counseling sessions, without which the secret they hold would be the root cause of their unseen pain. Some adult survivors are so traumatized with the ordeal that they become offenders in the process and so this ugly cycle continues. This is one cycle we attempt to break right at its apex.
